Bacillus Coagulans Probiotic: Reading the BC99 Line on the Finessa Label
A Bacillus coagulans probiotic is a spore-forming bacterium sold in supplements. Finessa names strain BC99 at 20% inside its 52.5 mg Probiotic Blend, but the panel does not say what the 20% is a share of. Strain-level effects are not shown for this product.

The strain01
What is a Bacillus coagulans probiotic?
It is a probiotic built on Bacillus coagulans, a different kind of microbe from the Lactobacillus species that fill most blends.
On the Finessa panel it is the first of four lines that carry percentages: "20% Bacillus coagulans BC99". The others are L. acidophilus LA85 at 30%, Bifidobacterium lactis BLa80 at 30% and L. reuteri LR08 at 20%.
Label math02
How much Bacillus coagulans is in a scoop?
It is unknown. The panel does not say what the 20% is a share of.
If it meant 20% of the whole 52.5 mg blend, the line would be 10.5 mg. That is our guess, not a printed fact. It could also be 20% of only the four named strains. Either way, mg is a weight, and weight tells you little about live cells (NIH ODS, Probiotics fact sheet (CFU, label)).
| Place | Label line | Weight per scoop |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Beet root | At most about 1,000 mg · at least 111 mg |
| 2 | Black currant | At most about 500 mg |
| 3 | Pomegranate | At most about 333 mg |
| 4 | Raspberry | At most about 250 mg |
| 5 | Strawberry juice | At most about 200 mg |
| 6 | Cranberry | At most about 167 mg |
| 7 | Blueberry | At most about 143 mg |
| 8 | Purple carrot | At most about 125 mg |
| 9 | Acai berry | At most about 111 mg |
| Place | Label line | Weight per scoop |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Cinnamon (cassia) | At most about 755 mg · at least 151 mg |
| 2 | Ginger | At most about 378 mg |
| 3 | Cascara sagrada 10:1 | At most about 252 mg |
| 4 | DGL licorice | At most about 189 mg |
| 5 | Fructooligosaccharides | At most about 151 mg |
| Place | Label line | Weight per scoop |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Dandelion | At most about 450 mg · at least 90 mg |
| 2 | Turmeric | At most about 225 mg |
| 3 | Milk thistle | At most about 150 mg |
| 4 | Artichoke | At most about 112 mg |
| 5 | Silymarin 80% | At most about 90 mg |
A blend must list its parts from most to least by weight (21 CFR 101.36 (proprietary blends)). The panel prints four blend totals and 2 mg of Akkermansia: 1,000 + 755 + 450 + 52.5 + 2 = 2,259.5 mg a scoop. The tub says 3.38 oz (96 g) and the panel 50 servings, which is about 1.92 g a scoop, so the printed weights do not fit inside one scoop. We do not know which number is off. Ask for the lot certificate of analysis. This is our arithmetic from the label, not a lab test.
Evidence03
Is there proof this probiotic helps?
Not for this blend. Probiotic effects are strain-specific, and no trial has tested Finessa.
A review of 14 trials found about 1.3 more bowel movements a week on average. The effect was significant for B. lactis but not for L. casei Shirota (Dimidi 2014, probiotics and functional constipation meta-analysis). Bacillus coagulans was not the headline result. NCCIH adds that we often do not know which probiotics help or how much to take (NCCIH, Probiotics: usefulness and safety).

Who should check with a doctor before a probiotic blend?
Anyone with a weak immune system or a serious illness, because harm from probiotics is more likely there (NCCIH, Probiotics: usefulness and safety).
Keep taking prescribed medicine. The blend also sits next to cascara sagrada, a stimulant-laxative herb. The side-effects guide covers both.
Decide05
What should you ask before buying?
Ask for the lot's certificate of analysis and the CFU at the end of shelf life.
The tub front says 3 Billion CFU and the panel says 5 Billion CFU at manufacture. Read the Supplement Facts guide for more.

FAQ06
Questions about Bacillus coagulans
Is Bacillus coagulans the same as Lactobacillus?
No. It is a separate genus of bacteria. Different probiotics may act differently, so results for one Lactobacillus do not carry over to another microbe (NCCIH, Probiotics: usefulness and safety).
What does BC99 mean on the Finessa label?
BC99 is the strain code printed after Bacillus coagulans. Strain codes matter because effects belong to the tested strain. The label does not point to any study of BC99.
Does 20% mean 20% of the scoop?
No. The 20% sits inside the 52.5 mg Probiotic Blend, a tiny part of a scoop that weighs about 1.92 g by our arithmetic. The panel does not say what the 20% is a share of.
Where does the CFU number come from?
The panel says 5 Billion CFU at the time of manufacture and the tub front says 3 Billion CFU. The ODS advises looking for CFU at the end of shelf life (NIH ODS, Probiotics fact sheet (CFU, label)).
