The panel01

What do the Finessa supplement facts say?

The panel gives a serving of 1 scoop and 50 servings per container. A scoop has 10 calories and 3 g of total carbohydrate.

It lists selenium 1 mcg (2% DV), sodium 40 mg (2% DV) and potassium 10 mg (less than 1% DV). Then come four blends and one single probiotic: a 1,000 mg Polyphenol Blend, a 755 mg Gut Health blend, a 450 mg Liver Health Blend, a 52.5 mg Probiotic Blend and 2 mg of Akkermansia muciniphila AH39.

The selenium line is about 1.8% of the 55 mcg daily recommended intake for adults, a trace amount (NIH ODS, Selenium fact sheet). Fiber, sugar, protein and fat are not printed as lines. The Daily Value is not established for the blends.

The label images we were given show only the tub front and this panel. No directions, warning text, storage line, distributor or FDA statement is visible, so we say so each time we use one. The panel is typed out word for word beside the image.

Read it by part02

How do you read the Finessa nutrition facts?

Read the panel top to bottom: serving, nutrients, blends, then the small print. Tap a number for plain words.

Tap a number to read that part of the label.

  1. Serving size

1 scoop, 50 servings per container. The tub front says Net Wt. 3.38 oz (96 g), which is about 1.92 g a scoop.

  2. Nutrition lines

10 calories, 3 g carbohydrate, 1 mcg selenium, 40 mg sodium, 10 mg potassium. No sugars line is printed.

  3. Polyphenol Blend

1,000 mg: nine fruit and vegetable powders from beet root to acai berry extract. Single amounts are not shown.

  4. Gut Health

755 mg: cinnamon, ginger, cascara sagrada 10:1, deglycyrrhizinated licorice and fructooligosaccharides. Cascara is a stimulant-laxative herb.

  5. Liver Health Blend

450 mg: dandelion, turmeric, milk thistle, artichoke (5% cynarin) and silymarin 80%.

  6. Probiotic Blend

52.5 mg and 5 billion CFU at the time of manufacture. The tub front says 3 billion CFU.

  7. Akkermansia

Probiotic Powder (Akkermansia muciniphila AH39), 2 mg, on its own line.

  8. Footnotes

Daily Values are not established for the blends; the CFU count is 'at the time of manufacture', not at the end of shelf life.

  9. Other ingredients

Resistant dextrin, natural flavors, citric acid, sea salt, stevia extract (leaf), silicon dioxide.

The blends03

What is in the Finessa blends?

Four blends and one single probiotic make up the active lines. Each blend prints only its total weight.

US rules let a blend hide single amounts, but it must list its parts from most to least by weight (21 CFR 101.36 (proprietary blends)). So line k of a blend weighs at most the blend total divided by k. That is our arithmetic from the label order, not a lab test.

  • Polyphenol Blend, 1,000 mg: nine fruit and vegetable powders, beet root first.
  • Gut Health, 755 mg: cinnamon, ginger, cascara sagrada, licorice extract, fructooligosaccharides.
  • Liver Health Blend, 450 mg: dandelion, turmeric, milk thistle, artichoke, silymarin.
  • Probiotic Blend, 52.5 mg and Akkermansia, 2 mg.

Cascara sagrada sits third of five in Gut Health, so it weighs at most 251 mg a scoop. It is a stimulant-laxative herb (MSK, Cascara (About Herbs)). Two details are odd: L. casei is printed twice, and the purple carrot line carries the Latin name of radish. We report both as printed. Every line has a profile on the ingredients page.

Label math04

Do the Finessa supplement facts add up?

No. The blend lines add to 2,259.5 mg a scoop, but a scoop is about 1.92 g, so the printed weights cannot all fit.

The sum is 1,000 + 755 + 450 + 52.5 + 2 = 2,259.5 mg. A 96 g tub over 50 servings gives about 1.92 g, or 1,920 mg, a scoop. The blend lines alone exceed that by about 340 mg, and the base adds weight too.

A scoop cannot hold more than it weighs. Either the tub weight, the serving count or a blend weight is off, and we do not know which.

One scoop by printed number, on one scale

  1. Polyphenol Blend1,000 mg
  2. Gut Health755 mg
  3. Liver Health Blend450 mg
  4. Probiotic Blend52 mg
  5. Akkermansia2 mg

From the Supplement Facts panel: four blends and one strain line. The bars share one scale, so the probiotic lines look tiny next to the plant blends. Milligrams of live bacteria and billions of CFU are not the same measure.

What we do about it

We show every number with its source, name no culprit and accuse no one. Ask the order desk for the lot's certificate of analysis at +1 (302) 200-3480, and trust the tub you receive.

More conflicts05

Why do the CFU, servings and carbohydrate numbers disagree?

Four more numbers clash, each between two places on the same product.

Where the Finessa numbers disagree
ItemOne source saysAnother says
Live bacteriaTub front: "3 Billion CFU"Panel: 5 billion CFU at the time of manufacture
How long a tub lastsPanel: 50 servings, so 50 days at one scoopSales page: one bottle is 30 days
CarbohydratePanel: 3 g a scoopTub math: the whole scoop weighs about 1.92 g

CFU stands for colony-forming units, a count of live cells. Labels need only list the weight of the microbes, which has no link to live cells, and the count can fall over shelf life (NIH ODS, Probiotics fact sheet (CFU, label)). A count "at the time of manufacture" is not a count on the day you drink it.

Safety06

What cautions come with the Finessa label?

The label images show no warning text, so the cautions come from the ingredients.

Cascara can lower potassium and sodium with long use (MSK, Cascara (About Herbs)). Ginger can add to the effect of blood thinners (MSK, Ginger (blood thinners, diabetes drugs, gallstones)). Probiotics are riskier with a weak immune system (NCCIH, Probiotics: usefulness and safety).

Keep taking prescribed medicine

Do not stop, skip or cut a prescribed medicine because you started a supplement. Ask your care team first (FDA, Mixing medications and supplements).

Next steps07

What should you check before you order?

Check your own tub against this panel, and ask for the lot paper before you rely on any number.

If the CFU, servings or net weight on your tub differ from ours, trust your tub. Lot FIN-26/GO-1317 and FIN-1317-26-GO are seller references, not lab proof, so see how to verify your batch and label vs sales page.

FAQ08

Supplement facts questions

What are the Finessa nutrition facts?

One scoop has 10 calories, 3 g of carbohydrate, 40 mg of sodium, 10 mg of potassium and 1 mcg of selenium. The panel prints no protein, fat, fiber or sugar lines. It lists four blends and 2 mg of Akkermansia.

How many servings are in a tub of Finessa?

The panel says 50 servings of one scoop in a 3.38 oz (96 g) tub. The sales page counts a bottle as 30 days, so the two do not agree. We plan packs on the 30 days and show both.

Why does the Finessa blend total exceed the scoop weight?

The four blends and Akkermansia add to 2,259.5 mg, and 96 g over 50 servings is about 1.92 g. We cannot tell whether the weight, the count or a blend figure is off. Ask the order desk for the lot's certificate of analysis.

Is Finessa 3 billion or 5 billion CFU?

Both appear. The tub front says 3 Billion CFU, and the panel says 5 billion CFU at the time of manufacture. The count can fall over shelf life, so the number in your cup is unknown (NIH ODS, Probiotics fact sheet (CFU, label)).

What does "proprietary blend" mean on the Finessa label?

A blend lists its parts from most to least by weight but prints only the total (21 CFR 101.36 (proprietary blends)). That is why we show ceilings, such as cascara at most 251 mg, instead of single amounts. They are arithmetic, not lab results.

Does the Finessa label have directions or warnings?

The label images we were given show only the tub front and the panel, with no directions or warnings. The sales page says to mix 1 scoop with water or another drink once daily in the morning.
