Beet Root Powder Supplement: Why the Nitrate Studies Use Juice

What is a beet root powder supplement?
It is beetroot that has been dried and ground into a fine red powder.
Finessa lists "beet root powder" first in its 1,000 mg Polyphenol Blend. First place means the heaviest line, but the panel prints no single amount. Blend rules allow that (21 CFR 101.36 (proprietary blends)).

How much beet root powder is in a Finessa scoop?
At least 111 mg and at most 1,000 mg, by our arithmetic from the label order. It is not a lab test.
With nine lines, the heaviest must weigh at least a ninth of 1,000 mg. It cannot weigh more than the whole blend. That is a wide range.
The scoop itself is the bigger puzzle. The blends add to 2,259.5 mg, but 96 g across 50 servings is about 1.92 g a scoop. We do not know which number is off.

Does beet powder lower blood pressure like beet juice?
That is not shown for this product. The beet trials we found used juice, not a powder inside a blend.
A 2024 meta-analysis of 11 trials (349 people with high blood pressure) used beetroot juice supplying 200 to 800 mg of nitrate a day. Clinic systolic pressure fell by 5.31 mmHg, with low certainty (Sweeney 2022, berry polyphenols and gut microbiota (RCT review)).

Questions about beet powder
Is beet powder the same as beetroot juice?
No. Juice is a liquid with a stated nitrate content in the trials. A powder in a blend has no printed nitrate, and the study doses of 200 to 800 mg of nitrate came from juice (Sweeney 2022, berry polyphenols and gut microbiota (RCT review)).
Will beet powder turn urine or stool red?
It can in some people, because beets are strongly colored. We found no source in our set on this, so treat it as a common observation. Red stool with pain or other signs needs a doctor.
Does the label show the amount of beet?
No. Only the 1,000 mg blend total is printed, with the lines in order of weight. Each line's own amount stays hidden under the rule for blends (21 CFR 101.36 (proprietary blends)).
