Do Supplement Label Numbers Add Up? A Three-Step Test
Do supplement label numbers add up? Sometimes they do not. Divide net weight by servings, then add the listed amounts. On the Finessa panel the blends total 2,259.5 mg, but 96 g over 50 servings is about 1.92 g a scoop. One number is off.

The test01
How can you check whether supplement label numbers add up?
Use three steps: find the grams per serving, add the listed amounts, and compare the two.
The FDA labeling guide says the panel gives a serving size and the servings per container (FDA, Dietary Supplement Labeling Guide, Ch. IV Nutrition Labeling). That is enough to check the math at home with a calculator.
Divide
Net weight in grams divided by servings per container gives grams per serving.
Add
Add every weight printed for one serving, in milligrams.
Compare
The sum of the parts cannot be larger than the serving itself.
Worked example02
Do the Finessa label numbers add up?
No, not as printed. The blend lines add to more than a scoop can hold.
The tub front shows a net weight of 3.38 oz (96 g). The panel says 50 servings. So 96 g over 50 is about 1.92 g, or 1,920 mg, a scoop.
The panel lists Polyphenol Blend 1,000 mg, Gut Health 755 mg, Liver Health 450 mg, Probiotic Blend 52.5 mg and Akkermansia 2 mg. Those add to 2,259.5 mg. That is about 340 mg more than the whole scoop, and the other ingredients such as resistant dextrin are not even counted.
| Line | Amount |
|---|---|
| Net weight | 96 g |
| Servings | 50 |
| Weight a scoop | about 1,920 mg |
| Sum of the five printed lines | 2,259.5 mg |
We do not know which number is off. Ask for the lot's certificate of analysis, and trust the tub you receive.

What does the gap look like?
The bars below show one scoop split by printed weight.
Blend totals are printed, but single lines are hidden. The rule for blends is that parts are listed from most to least by weight (21 CFR 101.36 (proprietary blends)). That lets us set ceilings, such as cascara at no more than 251 mg. This is our arithmetic from the label order, not a lab test.

Which other numbers on the tub do not match?
Two more pairs disagree: the CFU count and the supply length.
The tub front says "3 Billion CFU". The panel says 5 Billion CFU at the time of manufacture. The panel counts 50 servings, while the sales page treats a bottle as a 30-day supply.
Weight in milligrams also says nothing about live cells (NIH ODS, Probiotics fact sheet (CFU, label)). Read the Supplement Facts page and the label vs sales page table for the full list. None of this proves bad intent. It means the numbers need an answer.

FAQ06
Questions about label math
Where do I find servings per container?
It sits at the top of the Supplement Facts panel, next to the serving size (FDA, Dietary Supplement Labeling Guide, Ch. IV Nutrition Labeling). On the Finessa panel it reads 50 servings, with one scoop as the serving.
Can a blend weigh more than the serving?
It should not. A serving is the full amount you take, so listed parts must fit inside it. When the sum of the parts is larger, the panel has an error somewhere, or a number is rounded wrongly.
Is a CFU count the same as milligrams?
No. Milligrams give the weight of the microbe powder, while CFU counts live cells. A label can list weight without telling you how many are alive (NIH ODS, Probiotics fact sheet (CFU, label)).
What is a certificate of analysis?
It is a lab report for one production lot, listing what was tested and the result. Finessa's lot codes are seller references, not lab proof, and no report is published on this site.
