Finessa Red Flags: Four Things That Stand Out on the Label

Quick answer

Finessa red flags are the label details that do not fit together. The blend weights add to 2,259.5 mg, more than the roughly 1.92 g a scoop. Two CFU counts are printed, and the panel includes cascara sagrada, a laxative herb. We call these questions, not proof of wrongdoing.

Do the Finessa label weights add up?

No. The four blends and Akkermansia add to 2,259.5 mg a scoop, but 96 g across 50 servings is about 1.92 g.

The sum is 1,000 + 755 + 450 + 52.5 + 2 mg. That is already more than the average scoop, before the resistant dextrin and other ingredients are counted.

We do not know which number is off. Ask for the lot's certificate of analysis, and trust the tub you receive.

  1. Polyphenol Blend1,000 mg
  2. Gut Health755 mg
  3. Liver Health Blend450 mg
  4. Probiotic Blend52 mg
  5. Akkermansia2 mg

From the Supplement Facts panel: four blends and one strain line. The bars share one scale, so the probiotic lines look tiny next to the plant blends. Milligrams of live bacteria and billions of CFU are not the same measure.

Why are there two different CFU counts?

The tub front says "3 Billion CFU". The Supplement Facts panel says 5 Billion CFU at the time of manufacture.

The gap may reflect a count at the end of shelf life versus the day of making. The label does not explain it. The NIH advises looking for CFU stated at the end of shelf life, because probiotic microbes can die in storage (NIH ODS, Probiotics fact sheet (CFU, label)).

The panel also prints the L. casei line twice, and gives four percentages without saying what they are percentages of.

Is there a laxative herb in Finessa?

Yes. Cascara sagrada extract is third in the 755 mg Gut Health blend, so it weighs at most 251 mg, by our arithmetic.

Cascara is a stimulant-laxative herb. FDA ruled in 2002 that it is not generally recognized as safe and effective in over-the-counter laxative drug products (FDA 2002 final rule, cascara sagrada and aloe (Federal Register)). Memorial Sloan Kettering says prolonged use can lower potassium and sodium and may harm the liver (MSK, Cascara (About Herbs)).

The marketing graphic from the brand leaves cascara out. The panel and the sales page include it. Finessa is a supplement, not a laxative drug, and nothing here treats any condition.

Check before you order

Ask a doctor or pharmacist first if you are pregnant, nursing, under 18, have liver or bowel disease, or take regular medicine. Keep taking prescribed medicine (FDA, Mixing medications and supplements).

FAQ05

Questions about the red flags

Are these Finessa red flags proof of a scam?

No. They are mismatches we cannot explain from the images we have. A certificate of analysis for your lot would settle most of them. We never accuse anyone of fraud.

Should I avoid Finessa because of cascara?

That depends on your health and medicines. Cascara is a strong laxative herb, so ask a doctor or pharmacist first. The panel does not print its amount, only the blend total.

Can I check the CFU count myself?

Not at home. Ask the order desk for the lot's certificate of analysis. Label weight in milligrams says nothing about live cells (NIH ODS, Probiotics fact sheet (CFU, label)).
