Finessa stimulant free is only half true. The panel we were given lists no caffeine, guarana or similar energy stimulant. It does list cascara sagrada extract, a stimulant-laxative herb that works on the bowel, not on alertness. The two meanings of stimulant are easy to mix up.

What does stimulant free mean on a supplement?
Most shoppers read it as no caffeine and no energy stimulants. A stimulant laxative is something else: it triggers the bowel muscles to move.
FDA does not define "stimulant free" for supplements, so the phrase is only as good as the maker's meaning. The label images we were given print no such phrase. Any use of it comes from shoppers or sellers.

Does the Finessa panel list caffeine?
No. We read every line of the Supplement Facts image and found no caffeine, guarana, green tea extract or yerba mate.
The sales page does promise "Experience increased energy levels". The panel gives no ingredient that would explain it, and the powder has 10 calories a scoop.

Is cascara sagrada a stimulant?
Yes, in the laxative sense. Memorial Sloan Kettering calls cascara a strong laxative and says prolonged use can lower potassium and sodium (MSK, Cascara (About Herbs)).
FDA ruled in 2002 that cascara in over-the-counter laxative drug products is not generally recognized as safe and effective (FDA 2002 final rule, cascara sagrada and aloe (Federal Register)). Finessa is sold as a powder supplement, not a laxative drug.
